The Border Guard Bangladesh members seized so far the largest cache of crystal methamphetamine, also known as ice among its consumers, and arrested three drug dealers in Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar early Wednesday.

The BGB personnel conducted a drive at Dakshin Rahmater Bill in Palangkhali of Ukhia in the early hours and arrested

Bujrukh Miah, 51, locally known as a Yaba godfather, and his two accomplices Md Ismail, 23, and Saidul Bashar, 40, along with 21 kilograms of crystal meth.

The BGB officials estimated the value of the seized contraband drug at Tk 105.45 crore.

Colonel Mehdi Hossain Kabir, Sector Commander of BGB’s Ramu Sector, in a press briefing at Cox's Bazar Battalion office, informed journalists of the seizure.

He said the arrested people in primary interrogation informed that the consignment was meant for storing in Rohingya camps and later supplying to different parts of the country.

Colonel Mehdi said they got names of some people involved with such smuggling but he declined to inform further for the sake of investigation.

Colonel Mehdi said they had hints that some drug dealers would enter Bangladesh from Myanmar with a large amount of crystal meth at midnight past Tuesday and a patrol team of BGB's Palangkhali BOP took a strategic position inside Bangladesh territory accordingly.

Around 4:30am on Wednesday, six to seven smugglers entered Bangladesh territory on foot from Myanmar near border pillar 20 and the BGB patrol teams challenged them.

In the face of obstruction from BGB personnel, the drug dealers tried to flee throwing two sacks on the ground, he added.

Later, they could detain three of the drug traffickers with 21kg 90 grams of crystal meth, he said.
