3 arrested over cocktail blast in Naya Paltan

The police have arrested three for alleged involvement with a cocktail blast in front of the BNP’s central office at Naya Paltan in Dhaka on Saturday evening.

Confirming the matter, Paltan police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Salahuddin Mia told The Business Post that the arrestees – Tariqul Islam, 30, Abu Chayed Patwari, 45, and Abu Bakr, 54 – were apprehended from the Naya Paltan area.

They are all BNP activists, the OC added.

“Police filed a case against 15 individuals, as well as 50-60 unknown people, with the Paltan police station,” Salahuddin Mia said. The three arrestees are also included among the 15 individuals.

On Saturday evening around 6:10pm, a crude bomb went off in front of the BNP’s central office at Naya Paltan. Around five to six people were detained from the spot for questioning. Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident.

Before this incident, BNP held a protest march on the road in front of the party office around 4pm in support of holding their grand rally on December 10 at Naya Paltan. BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi led the procession.
