The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested three men, including the ring leader, for their alleged involvement with embezzling money through a credit card scam.
They were arrested from the Shyampur area of Dhaka, according to a RAB press release on Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off, a RAB team conducted a raid in Shyampur’s IG gate area on Saturday night and arrested the ring leader Shajol Hawlader, 27, and his associates Saiful Islam, 37, and Abul Hossain, 65.
The arrestees admitted their involvement during preliminary questioning.
Members of this ring pretended to be bank employees and obtained all essential paperwork from their victims, especially small traders, in Dhaka and other places while claiming to be able to provide them with credit cards and loans.
Once issued, the scammers then took money out using their victims’ credit cards.
Besides, they would collect large quantities of money from numerous people on the pretense of providing loans from banks and somobay somiti, the release read.
