The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested three people for their alleged involvement in making counterfeit currency notes.
The arrestees are – Majedul Islam, 23, Arif Hossain, 23, and Shahdat Hossain, 23.
They were apprehended from Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area on Saturday night, said RAB-3 Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Media) Farzana Haque.
A motorcycle and counterfeit notes worth Tk 5,600, including two pieces of Tk 200 denomination and 52 pieces of Tk 100 denomination, were seized from their possession, she said.
The arrestees admitted their involvement in the crime during interrogation, the RAB official said, adding that they have been buying and selling fake notes in various parts of the country for a long time.
Majedul, who is the mastermind of the gang, operated multiple gangs, she said.
“Their gang has been illegally making fake Bangladeshi currency notes of different denominations for a long time and fraudulently providing those to traders and other people during various transactions, including the purchase of goods,” she said.
RAB's intelligence surveillance operation is underway against these gangs.
