4 held over fake birth certificate scam in Ctg

The police have arrested four members of a racket that was allegedly producing fake birth certificates in the Chattogram city.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Counter Terrorism Unit conducted drives in different areas of the port city and apprehended them on Monday. The arrested are — Md Abdur Rahman Prakash Arif, 35, Delwar Hossain Simon, 23, Mostakim, 22, and Md Jahir Alam, 16.

Confirming the matter on Tuesday, CMP Deputy Commissioner (Counter Terrorism Unit) Manjur Morshed told The Business Post, “We also seized four CPUs, three monitors, one printer and scanner, one printer, and four mobile phones during the drives.

“In primary interrogation, the arrestees said the racket has so far prepared more than 5,000 birth certificates through forgery.”

The Counter Terrorism Unit initiated a shadow investigation into the general diaries filed with different police stations in the city over the presence of fake birth certificates in the servers of different councillors’ offices.

As part of the investigation, law enforcers made the arrests on Monday, Manjur said, adding that there are more such rackets operating across the country.

A case has been filed in this regard.

CMP Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy said they are continuing drives to arrest other members of the racket.
