Detective Branch (DB) has arrested five alleged involved with spreading rumours about banks and financial sectors.

The arrestees are — Mohammad Nur Un Nabi, Afsar Uddin Roman, Abu Sayed Saju, Shadhin Miah and Abdus Salam.

DB conducted a day-long raid and arrested them from various locations in Dhaka on Sunday.

“All arrested are involved with Jamaat-shibir. They are doing such things to destabilise the country,” DB Chief Harun-or-Rashid said at a press briefing.

“Unknown people, including arrestees were spreading fabricated information on social media in the names of various financial organisations with the help of anti-independence conspirators who were based both inside and outside the country,” he added.

The DB chief said that the main objective of this cycle is to destabilise the country's financial sectors and bring the government into disrepair.

Various circulars have been issued by Bangladesh Bank to keep common people aware of these rumours.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested persons were involved in various negative campaigns against various financial institutions including Islami Bank.

The operation is on by the DB to arrest the other accused involved in the incident
