The Detective Branch of Jashore district police arrested eight smugglers with a huge stock of Indian cosmetics and clothes during a raid at two residential hotels in Benapole in Jashore on Tuesday morning.
The arrestees were identified as Mostakin Arafat Salehin (32), son of Abul Kashem of Dhaka's Hajaribagh, Selim Hossain (29), son of late Abed Ali of Chandpur's Matlab upazila, Suman Talukdar (36), son of Nannu Talukdar of Barishal's Mehendiganj Upazila, Enamul Haque (54), son of Late Rahim Uddin of Kusumdia village in Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj, Khabir Uddin Khan (45), son of Kanchan Ali Khan of Khukra village, Ishak Chowdhury (47), son of Abdur Rob Chowdhury of Chandpur Sadar upazila, Tanvir Aktar (42), son of Idu Miya of Dhaka's Mohammadpur, Somir Haldar (35), son of Fakir Chand Haldar of India's Petrapole.
According to a press release by the district police's media cell, two teams led by Sub Inspector (SI) Nitai Chandra Das and Roich Ahmed of the Detective Branch (DB) conducted raids in Benapole's Diamond Abashik Hotel and Nahid Abashik Hotel this morning.
During the raids at two hotels, eight of the aforementioned smugglers were arrested with 55 Indian sarees, 125 lehengas, 551 three-pieces, 12 bundles of bangles and two bundles of imitation jewellery worth Tk 9,13,100 (9 lakh 13 thousand 100) in total.
A case has been filed with Benapole Port Police Station, according to the press release.
