Amanullah Aman alias Shimul Bhuiyan, who was arrested in Bangladesh and Butcher Jihad, who was arrested in India for their alleged involvement in the murder of the country's Member of Parliament (MP) Anwarul Azim Anar, were confronted over a video call.

They were joined in a video call organised from Dhaka in front of a delegation including Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch (DB) Chief Harun-Or-Rashid and a police official of Kolkata at the apartment 'Sanjiba Garden' located in the New Town area in Kolkata where on Wednesday morning, Jenaidah-4 lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar's remains were found.

Jihad was taken on a video call to verify the information given by Shimul Bhuiyan regarding the murder. The accused narrated his crimes and, according to the DB sources, gave sensational information, which is now being verified.

A three-member investigation team headed by Additional Commissioner Harun-Or-Rashid went to Kolkata on Sunday morning to investigate the abduction and recover the body of MP Azim. The delegation also includes Deputy Commissioner of Wari Division Abdul Ahad and ADC Shahidur Rahman.

Meanwhile, as of Monday at around 7 pm, no part of MP Azim’s dismembered body has been recovered after 14 days passed. The sharp weapons that were used for the murder are yet to be recovered. Kolkata police have been searching garbage bins, canals, and ponds for any clues for the last few days.

The DB chief said, "One of our parliamentarians has been killed in Kolkata. As a result, we have arrested some people in Bangladesh and got some information from them.

"As you know, this murder was premeditated and planned in Bangladesh and then settled in Kolkata. So, we visited several places connected to the incident and contacted the investigating officer of this case. The room in which he was killed in has also been inspected," he said.

Harun said that the investigating team talked to the accused in two countries on a video call and is trying to match the pieces of information obtained from the interrogation of the four arrested.

"They are obtaining a lot of information which are going to be verified. Kolkata police are giving us full cooperation."

Regarding the recovery of the remains of MP Azim, the DB chief said that the Indian police are doing their work in trying to recover the body, adding, "We stand by them. With their sincerity and dedicated efforts, we hope that they can recover the body in a short time."

On May 11, MP Azim went to Kolkata for medical treatments, and he remained untraced since May 14. Later, on May 22, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan stated that Azim had been brutally murdered at a flat in New Town, near Kolkata.

A case was filed on May 22 following the death of MP Azim. A Dhaka court on Friday granted an eight-day remand to three accused arrested in connection with the murder.
