At least 323 extremists to surrender with arms: RAB

At least 323 extremists from the north-western and south-western regions of Bangladesh will surrender to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) with arms in Sirajganj on May 21.

RAB-12 will supervise the surrender. The 323 extremists include 294 members of the LM Lal Potaka Bahini, eight members of the Jonojuddho and 21 members of the Sorbohara party, read a press release on Wednesday.

“Following the directions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and under the supervision of the home minister, RAB began drives to bring extremists back to a normal life. The surrendered extremists will be rehabilitated to normal occupations in society,” said RAB.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan will attend the event as the chief guest.

Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Ministry Benazir Ahmed, Senior Secretary of Public Security Department in Home Ministry Md Aminul Islam Khan, Inspector General of Bangladesh Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Director General of RAB Additional IGP M Khurshid Hossain and senior officials of various government departments and local public representatives will also attend the surrender programme.
