Fragments of a body have been recovered from a septic tank at Sanjeeva Gardens in Kolkata. Police suspect that the fragments may belong to Jhenaidah-4 Constituency lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar’s body.

However, it has not officially been confirmed that these fragments are part of Anwarul Azim Anar’s body, said the investigating officers in Kolkata and the Detective Brand of Bangladesh Police.

Seeking anonymity, an official involved in the investigation told The Business Post, “We have heard from Kolkata local journalists and media sources that a few body parts have been recovered from the septic tank of Sanjeeva Gardens.

“But they are still not sure whether it belongs to MP Azim or not.  Moreover, the Kolkata CID or Police have not officially confirmed us as yet. Even if the body or body parts are recovered, it is not possible to comment in advance.  We can get confirmation after a DNA test.”

Three members of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch are currently in Kolkata to investigate the murder of lawmaker Azim.

They are – DB Chief Harun-or-Rashid, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Ahad, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Shahidur Rahman. This team has spoken to Indian officials involved with the murder investigation, and performed inspections on suspected crime scenes.

Jihad Howlader, a man who allegedly butchered the body of Azim and was arrested by the Kolkata Police, said that some body parts were flushed in the commode.

The Indian police on May 22 had recovered the dismembered body of Anwarul Azim Anar, the Awami League MP from Jhenaidah-4, from a flat in Sanjeeva Garden, an affluent community in the Newtown area of Kolkata in West Bengal.
