Notorious dope gangs popularly known as ‘Ogyan Party’ have become more active in the capital ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, the second biggest religious festival of the Muslims.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) recently arrested five members of a dope gang for their alleged involvement in doping people and looting their belongings.

The accused were arrested from the Gabtoli bus terminal areas in Dhaka on Thursday after a daylong raid, said RAB-4 in a press release.

The arrestees were Ful Mia, 49, Enamul Sheikh, 35, Abu Musa, 30, Ahad Ali, 24 and Abdur Rahim, 38.

RAB has been operating persistent drives to arrest various organised and active members who are involved with murder, extortion, robbery, malam-party and dope gangs to ensure the security of general people, the elite force said.

As part of that continuous effort, an expeditionary team conducted the operation in the Gabtali bus terminal area and arrested five dope gang members including their leader, the release said, adding that during the drive, the law enforcers also seized 150 aesthetic tablets and five packets of biscuits from the detainees.

During preliminary interrogation, the arrested persons confessed to being active members of the dope gang.

This gang used to travel on long-route buses as general passengers and try to get friendly with other passengers. At one point, they technically offer biscuits or water mixed with anaesthetic drugs and eventually loot them when the passengers get fainted.

The dope gang members were planning to rob a large number of passengers as they would travel marking the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, the detainees said.
