Goods worth Tk130cr seized in Jan: BGB

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods, narcotics, banned drugs, and arms worth Tk 130.63 crore in January.

Besides, 198 individuals have been detained for alleged involvement with smuggling various goods during the BGB operation at the border, read a press release issued Thursday.

On the other hand, legal action was taken against 52 Bangladeshi citizens and seven Indian citizens for illegally crossing the border, said Shariful Islam, public relations officer of the BGB headquarters.

The seized items include 5,23,268 yaba pills, 3.169 kg crystal meth, 8.832 kg of heroin, 14,617 bottles of phensedyl, 22,728 bottles of foreign liquor, 5,229 cans of beer, 133 litres local liquor, 2,501 kg of marijuana, 1,93,241 packets of bidis and cigarettes, 19,289 intoxicating injections, 10,947 bottles of Eskuf syrup, 905 bottles of MkDil/Cofidil, 6,86,534 pieces of various medicines, 35,330 Enegra/Senegra pills and 10,88,059 other pills.

Moreover, 31.628 kg gold, 6.061 kg silver, 1,62,109 cosmetic items, 22,510 imitation jewellery items, 10,789 sarees, 5,763 three-piece sets, blankets and shirt pieces, 2,712 readymade garments, 3,386 cubic feet of wood, 3,942 kg tea leaves, 86,714 kg coal, two touchstone idols, 47 kg turtle shells, 1,950 kg current net, 1,074 kg pesticides, seven trucks/covered vans, 13 pickups, seven private cars, 20 CNG/easy-bikes, and 79 motorcycles were also seized.

Alongside the goods, the BGB also seized arms including 22 guns, two magazines, two mortar shells, and 130-round bullets.
