A case was filed on Wednesday against 17 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former lawmakers Tarana Halim and Momtaz Begum, actor Shomi Kaiser for allegedly attempting to murder BNP activist Syed Hasan Mahmud.
Victim Mahmud filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Belal Hossain. The court, after recording the statement of the complainant, asked the Criminal Investigation Agency (CID) to probe the allegations and submit a report.
The other accused include Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Anisul Huq, Hasan Mahmud, Dilip Barua, and Harun Ur-Rashid.
According to the case documents, when Syed Hasan Mahmud was a ward councilor aspirant of Dhaka City Corporation Election in 2019, Awami League goons obstructed him from carrying out election campaign.
Later, he was abducted from the Rampura Bridge area on June 25, 2022, and tortured, confining him at an unknown place. He was freed on June 29.
