An Imam of a mosque was stabbed by unidentified miscreants allegedly for officering doa for the eternal salvation of war crimes convict Delwar Hossain Sayeedi at Zadabpur in Sharsha upazila of Jashore district on Monday night.

The injured was identified as Ashraful Islam, 26, Imam of Gilapole jam-e-mosque under Ulashi union and son of Rabiul Islam.

He is now undergoing treatment at Jashore General Hospital.

Ashraful said some 7-8 masked miscreants equipped with sharp weapons attacked him and took him to an open field while he was heading towards the mosque for Maghrib prayers.

Later, they stabbed him with knives and blades, leaving him injured.

On Friday, Ashraful offered doa for Jamaat-e-Islami leader Sayeedi after Juma prayers. Some young men waylaid him and threatened him for this on that day, said Ashraful.

However, no complaint has been lodged yet in this connection and action will be taken if any complaint is lodged, said Officer-in-Charge of Sharsha police station Akikul Islam.

Delwar Hossain Sayeedi passed away on the night of August 14 while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
