A coalition team comprising district administration officials and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday started the confiscation process of properties of the recently-sealed bungalow belonging to the former inspector general of Bangladesh Police, Benazir Ahmed, in the Rupganj area of Narayanganj.
The team entered the bungalow, located in the Dakkhin Bagh area of Rupganj, on Wednesday afternoon following a court order. Various items from the bungalow were seized. Apart from necessary household furnitures, the team found nothing of significance.
Although journalists were not allowed inside during this ACC confiscation, Narayanganj ACC Deputy Director Moinul Hasan Rawshani confirmed the operation and stated, "The confiscation of the goods inside the house is ongoing. A list of the seized items has been prepared which will be submitted to the court. Details will be shared as well."
This confiscation follows an earlier action taken last Saturday when a joint team from Narayanganj's district administration and the ACC sealed the house.
At that time, officials were unable to enter the main building due to a digital lock, preventing them from assessing the extent of the properties within.
Narayanganj Additional Deputy Commissioner of Revenue Md Shafikur Alam, who was also present at that time, said, “Various items from Benazir’s bungalow were seized. Apart from necessary household furniture, there was nothing significant in the house.”
The confiscation notice, issued last Saturday, identified the owner of the property named 'Savanna Eco Resort Private Ltd', built on 24 kathas of land, as Benazir Ahmed's daughter, Farheen Rishta Binte Benazir. The property has been confiscated following a court ruling.
The prominent red duplex, situated beside an artificial lake in Ananda Housing Society, Dakkhin Bagh, also stands on the aforementioned 24 kathas of land.
About eight years ago, Benazir acquired 55 per cent of the land from the children of the late Premananda Sarkar for Tk 1.83 crore. The duplex was constructed on this land about four years ago.
Notably, on June 12, following an application by the ACC, the court confiscated a large amount of Benazir's assets for the third time and this bungalow was also on the list. The bungalow is valued at approximately Tk 10 crore.
