The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) has arrested a man for alleged involvement with online gambling. The suspect, Md Hafiz Al Asad, 23, was arrested on Sunday from the capital’s Khilkhet area.
ATU’s Superintendent of Police Mohammad Aslam Khan confirmed the matter through a press release on Monday.
He added, “On March 27 and 28, two online gambling platform members Rana and Reza were arrested in Bogura district. Later, based on their information, we learned about Asad. Asad was later arrested from the Khilkhet area on Sunday.
“We also seized one smartphone and one SIM card used for managing the online gambling platform from him during the drive.”
During primary interrogation, the ATU learned that Asad was involved in illegal gambling on an online gambling website through the use of Facebook ID and Facebook groups.
Asad was also involved in money transactions for use in gambling through mobile financial services, and encouraged people to participate in online gambling using Taka or USD. Many have been victimised and lost money to the platform.
