RAB arrests 32 suspected muggers in city

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Sunday arrested 32 individuals for their alleged involvement with mugging in Dhaka.

They were arrested from the capital’s Motijheel, Khilgaon, Rampura, Hatijheel, Shahjahanpur and Wari, said RAB-3 Commanding Officer Lt Col Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed.

“RAB-3 conducted raids in different parts of Dhaka and arrested them on the basis of several complaints and information from the sources. A large number of weapons including switch gears, knives, razors, antique cutters, scissors, and blades were seized during the drives,” he said.

“Members of these hijacking gangs continue to operate in different alleys. As soon as they get a chance, they show sharp weapons to pedestrians, rickshaw and CNG run auto-rickshaw passengers and loot everything,” he added.

“The snatchers become reckless in relatively isolated roads, launch ghats, bus stands, and railway station areas. They do not even hesitate to inflict fatal injuries on innocent pedestrians,” Arif said.

RAB-3 has arrested 268 snatchers by conducting 79 drives against robbers and muggers in the last six months.
