Four people were arrested over the torture of a woman by tying her to an electric pole at Dakkhinpara village of Gobindaganj upazila in Gaibandha.

On Sunday midnight, the woman was subjected to physical and mental torture in medieval style over a slander that she was found with her ex-husband at her house. Her hair was cut and she was beaten while being tied to an electric pole.

Police later rescued her after getting a call from the emergency helpline.

The woman took treatment at Upazila Health Complex on Monday morning. Later, she filed a complaint accusing seven people.

Four people, including the woman's sister-in-law Chameli Begum, 40, Shahjahan Ali, 48, and Abdus Sattar, 55 — were arrested on Monday. Police also arrested the woman's ex-husband, Monarul Islam,35, on Tuesday noon, said Shamsul Alam Shah, officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj Police Station.

Preparations are underway to send the arrestees to the district jail through the court and to arrest the other accused, added the OC.
