General Secretary of Chattogram city unit of Awami League's voluntary unit Swechasebok League Azizur Rahman Aziz was detained from Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram while fleeing abroad on Wednesday night.
Sources at the airport said Azizur Rahman was trying to flee to Saudi Arabia with an Umrah visa on Wednesday night.
Security officials of the airport detained him and later handed him over to the Bangladesh Army, said the airport's Director Wing Commander Taslim Ahmed.
Earlier on August 4, detained Aziz sustained injuries in clashes with the students at New Market intersection.
He had been undergoing treatment at a city hospital with injuries on his head and other parts of his body for three days. After receiving treatment, he tried to flee.
Several top-level leaders of the Awami League were detained at airports while trying to flee the country.
