The rail communication between Chattogram and Dhaka trains is resuming from tonight. Two trains are scheduled to leave Chattogram for Dhaka. Turna will leave Chattogram station at 11:30pm and Chattogram Mail will leave at 11:45pm.

Full train services in this route will resume from Tuesday.

On Monday, senior railway officials conducted a spot visit to check the railway track condition on this route. After the inspection, they made the decision to run train service from tonight.

Railway officials say due to the massive floods, both the railway tracks from Feni to Fazilpur were damaged. There was water not only on the railway tracks, but also on the bridges. Due to these reasons the train service could not run.

There was also a concern of accidentally damaging railway property, as well as putting the passengers in danger.

Divisional Transport Officer of Bangladesh Railway (East Zone) Md Anisur Rahman said, “Dhaka-Chattogram railway has two tracks. One track (Chattogram to Dhaka) had suffered more damage due to the flood. The other track (Dhaka to Chattogram) is relatively less damaged.

“The track has been renovated and made usable for trains. The train service on this route will start running from tonight. There is a plan to run all the trains as per schedule from Tuesday.”

People have been in serious trouble due to the suspension of train services between Chattogram and Dhaka.

As various parts of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway have been submerged due to the flood, traffic came to almost standstill. This highway remains gridlocked for hours.
