Five people have been killed and two others injured after a truck rear-ended an auto-rickshaw in Cumilla’s Burichang upazila.
The accident took place on Cumilla-Sylhet road in the Tuntbagan area of Mainamati union around 8:30am on Friday.
The deceased are identified as autorickshaw driver Julhas Mia, 60, passengers Zahirul Islam, 35, Jalal, 36, Saiful, 35, and Alamgir, 34.
Confirming the matter, the Mainamati Highway police station Officer in Charge Bellal Uddin Jahangir said five people died on the spot.
The bodies have been kept at the police station and the truck was seized, he added.
The injured in the incident are undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
