Two separate cases were filed on Thursday in connection with the clash between locals and law enforcers over the confinement of a high school headmaster to a room after an allegation of sexual harassment to an X-grade female student in Debidwar upazila of Cumilla on Wednesday.
The girl’s father filed a case implicating Mashikara High School’s Headmaster Md Moktol Hossain under Child and Woman Repression and Prevention Act with the local Debidwar police station.
On the other hand, the police station Sub Inspector Muktar Ahmed Moly lodged another case accusing 10 identified individuals and 150-200 more unidentified individuals for obstructing police to discharge duties.
Kamal Krishna, officer-in-charge of the police station, said they have so far arrested 11 people including the headmaster involving the incident.
He said drivers have been going to arrest others involved in the incident.
Visiting the school on Thursday morning, the UNB correspondent found that no students came to attend academic activities following Wednesday’s clash.
Hajji Md Bahalul Huq, president of the school governing body, said no students appeared before the school though it was opened.
A tense situation was also prevailing in the school area over the incident.
Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, students and parents of the school staged a protest against the headmaster and confined him for allegedly sexually harassing the student.
Meanwhile, the angry mob vandalised two motorcycles used by the headmaster and his son-in-law and set them on fire.
The mob also vandalised a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and some doors of the school's classroom.
At around 8 pm, the protesters started throwing stones at the police. Police fired several rounds of bullets to bring the situation under control, but 10-12 people were seriously injured.
The injured were taken to Debidwar Upazila Health Complex and Cumilla Medical College Hospital.
According to police, locals, and students, Moktol made sexual advances to female students at various times.
