Cyclonic storm Mandous over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining area has moved west-northwestwards over the same area and the weather system will not hit the Bangladesh coast, according to the Bangladesh Meteorology Department (BMD).
Meteorologist AKM Nazmul Haque told UNB that there is no possibility of the cyclonic storm lashing the Bangladesh coast and it is likely to cross over India's Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu coasts.
The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisting distant warning signal number 2, the Met office said in a special bulletin on Friday.
Cyclone Mandous was centred about 1,690km southwest of Chattogram port, 1,640km southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 1,555km southwest of Mongla port, and 1,560km southwest of Payra port at 12 noon, it said.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 54km of the cyclone centre is about 62km per hour rising to 88km per hour in gusts. Sea will remain very rough near the cyclone centre.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the north Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
