Cyclone Midhili claimed two lives in Sandwip and Mirsharai, upazilas of Chattogram as it brought fierce winds that uprooted trees after making landfall on Friday.

The incidents occurred on Friday afternoon.

The victims were identified as Abdul Wahab, a 65-year-old resident of Magdhara Union in Sandwip, and Siddratul Muntaha, a three-year-old girl from the South Sonapahar area of Jorarganj Union in Mirsharai.

According to local sources, during the cyclone, Abdul Wahab was offering prayers at a mosque near his home in Magdhara Union when a tree's branch broke and fell on him, leading to his death.

Samrat Khisa, UNO of Sandwip, said the cyclone unleashed severe winds in the northern areas of Sandwip, causing significant damage. He confirmed Abdul Wahab's death due to a falling tree branch.

The other deceased, Siddratul Muntaha, was the daughter of Anwar Hossain Bhuiya, a resident of the affected house.

Muntaha's uncle, Mohammad Faruk Hossain, stated that on Friday evening when they went outside their house, they found Muntaha seriously injured by a fallen tree branch. She was rushed to the Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared her dead.

Ashraf Uddin, a member of Ward 8 in Jorarganj Union, confirmed the matter.

He stated, "In my ward, Muntaha lost her life as a tree branch fell on her house in the Katabil area."

As authorities in the affected areas assess the extent of the damage caused by Cyclone Midhili, the local authorities are actively working to provide support and relief to the affected families.
