Bangladesh on Monday reported 112 deaths from Covid-19 in 24 hours, a single-day record for death since the crisis began in March 2020.
This is the fourth day in a row the county reported over 100 deaths, which took the overall death toll from the disease to 10,497.
The previous highest single-day death from the virus in Bangladesh was recorded on Sunday when 102 people died.
The Directorate General of Health Service also reported 4,271 cases in 24 hours ending at 8:00 am Monday, up from Sunday’s 3,698 cases.
With the latest surge, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 7,23,221.
To contain the spread of the virus, the government imposed a ‘strict’ lockdown for seven days from April 14.
