Daily Covid-19 deaths slip to 78

Bangladesh reported 78 deaths from Covid-19 in the 24 hours till 8:00 am on Tuesday, which is the lowest single-day fatalities after April 13 when 69 people succumbed to the virus, according to a release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services.

The latest death toll has pushed the total number of deaths to 11,228.

Besides, 3,031 people tested positive for the virus, bringing the total number of infected patients to 75,16,59, said the release.

The death rate now stands at 1.49 and the infection rate at 12.51.

In the meantime, 5,234 patients recovered from the virus during the same period. The total number of recoveries now stands at 666,927 with the recovery rate at 88.73.

The ongoing nationwide lockdown has been later extended to 5 May to curb the transmission of the deadly virus.

Bangladesh is currently under a nationwide lockdown which is scheduled to continue till May 5 to tackle a second wave of the pandemic.
