The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) have extended their condolences to the victims of the Bangabazar fire in the capital.

In separate press statements on Tuesday, FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin and DCCI President Md Sameer Sattar expressed deep sympathy to the affected traders who lost their livelihoods due to the devastating fire.

Both the business leaders termed the incident an irrecoverable loss for the traders ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest festivals for Muslims.

Jashim and Sattar thanked the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD), the army, navy, air force, police and Border Guard Bangladesh personnel along with FBCCI Safety Council for their combined efforts to control the fire and rescue the victims.

The DCCI chief also called upon the authorities concerned to find out the exact reason for the tragic incident so that “such undeserving incidents can be avoided in the future.”

He said markets, shopping malls, shops and even households should have initial firefighting arrangements and be subject to regular monitoring to avoid such a shocking incident.

Sattar also put emphasis on proper awareness which is the main thing when it comes to dealing with or avoiding fire mishaps.

The fire that burned to ashes several thousands of shops in Dhaka's Bangabazar area in the early hours of Tuesday was tamed after six hours of frantic efforts. Forty-eight firefighting units brought the fire under control at 12:36pm, according to the FSCD media cell.
