Death from motorcycle accidents rise by 71.35% in 2021

A total of 1,758 people died and 1,123 severely injured in 1,653 motorcycle accidents from January to October this year, says a new report by the Road Safety Foundation. 

Among the dead, 1,327 (75.48 per cent) were aged between 14 to 45 years, of which 669 students and 72 teachers.

The report, which was compiled based on information from eight national dailies, five online news portals and electronic media, was unveiled on Wednesday on the foundation’s official Facebook account.

During the same period, the report also said a total of 151 passers-by were killed by motorcycle crashes, which is 8.58 per cent of the total death count.

A report also showed that of the accidents, 349 (21.11 per cent) were caused by head-on with other vehicles, 563 (35.26 per cent) due to motorcycles losing control, 715 (43.25 per cent) from being hit by other vehicles, and 6 (0.38 per cent) accidents due to other reasons.
