At least five people have been killed in 27 flood-affected districts in the last 24 hours due to the catastrophic flooding triggered by heavy monsoon downpours.

With the fresh deaths, the toll from flood rose to 73 in the last five weeks, according to the data provided by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday.

In addition, 4,614 people, including 566 in the last 24 hours, were affected by various diseases such as vision impairment, diarrhoea, skin diseases, or sustained snakebites during this period.

Among the deceased, three were from Mymensingh, and one from Sylhet divisions.

Of the total deceased, 14 died from lightning, one from diarrhea snakebite and 49 died from drowning, the health authorities added.
