37 patients died from Covid-19 in Bangladesh over the last 24 hours as of Wednesday, taking the death toll to 1,012. Besides, 3,190 more people tested positive, which is the highest single-day record of new infections in the country, making 74,865 confirmed cases in total.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Wednesday afternoon.
Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 16,994 samples were collected and 15,965 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 441,560 samples have been tested in the country.
With 563 new recoveries, a total of 15,899 patients recovered from coronavirus till date.
The deceased, of whom 33 were males and four females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 11-20 years, three between 31-40, five were between 41-50 years, ten were between 51-60, ten between 61-70, seven between 71-80 and one was between 81-90 years.
Under division-wise categorisation, 25 hailed from the Dhaka division, seven from Chattogram, two from Barishal and one each from Rajshahi, Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions.
25 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals while 12 died at home.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection reached 411,144 as of Wednesday morning, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally.
So far, 7,237,093 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.
Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.
Among the currently 3,301,896 infected patients, 3,247,874 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 54,022 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two.
So far, 3,370,276 people have recovered.
