As many as 21 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Monday, taking the death toll to 501. Besides, 1,975 more people tested positive for the virus, which is the highest single-day record of new infections in the country, making 35,585 confirmed cases in total. 

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Monday.

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 11,541 samples were collected and 9,451 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 2,53,034 samples have been tested in the country. 

With 433 new recoveries, a total of 7,334 patients recovered from coronavirus till date.

The deceased, of whom 16 were identified males and 5 females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 11-20 years, three were between 41-50, nine aged between 51-60, four between 61-70, two between 71-80 and two were between 81-90.

Under division-wise categorisation, 11 hailed from Dhaka division, 9 from Chittagong division and 1 from Rangpur division.

Meanwhile, global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection reached 345,059 as of Monday morning, according to the data provided by Johns Hopkins University. 

So far, 5,407,613 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year. 

Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition. 

Among the currently infected 2,849,888 patients, 2,796,665 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 53,223 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two. 

So far, 2,302,004 people have recovered.
