A deep depression over the east-central bay and adjoining area has moved north-northwestwards and intensified into a cyclonic storm 'Yaas' on Monday, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
In a special weather bulletin, the Met Office (BMD) on Monday asked the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra to hoist distant warning signal 2.
“It is likely to intensify further and move in a north-northwesterly direction,” the Met Office bulletin said.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the north bay and the deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution.
The Met Office also urged the fishers not to venture into the deep sea and advised those who are already in the deep sea to return to the coast.
A moderate heatwave is currently sweeping over parts of Bangladesh, including Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions. It may continue, according to a regular weather forecast of the BMD.
