Daily Desh Rupantor Editor Amit Habib passed away at a hospital in Dhaka on Thursday night. He was 58.
Amit breathed his last at 11:00pm while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital, Chief Reporter of the daily Ummul Wara Sweety confirmed, reports UNB.
The Desh Rupantor editor was admitted to the hospital after he had a major stroke on July 21. He also suffered a stroke in 2020.
Sweety said that Amit Habib's first namaz-e-janaza will be held at 10:00am on Friday at Desh Rupantor office in Bangla Motor and the second funeral prayer at the Jatiya Press Club at 11:00am. After that, his body will be taken to Jhenaidah.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the demise of the eminent journalist.
In a condolence message, she prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud also mourned the death of Amit Habib.
Before joining Desh Rupantor, Amit worked for different dailies, including Kaler Kantho, Samakal, Jai Jai Din, and Bhorer Kagoj in different positions.
In 2018, Amit joined Desh Rupantor as its editor.
