Apart from private cars and microbuses, people are also going home for Eid holidays by renting motorcycles. As per the government's instructions, public transport has been stopped but private vehicles have been allowed to leave Dhaka. Since the announcement, the number of homebound people has dropped from Dhaka. And people are abusing this opportunity.
Many people were seen renting private cars and microbuses on their way to village home.
Arefin Sohel, who was travelling from Jatrabari to MawaGhat, said, "I will go to Mawa Ghat by microbus from here. We have been going through a difficult time for more than two months. If we celebrate Eid with my mother, everyone in our house will be happy."
Mozammel Hossain travelling through Aminbazar Bridge said he works for a private company. Couldn't go home for two months because of Corona pandemic. So he is going to Faridpur for Eid holidays. Although he has no vehicle of his own, he has rented a motorcycle up to Aricha Ghat for one thousand taka.
A police official on duty in Gabtoli area, who did not want to be named, told the Business Post that the pressure of people returning home on Eid is still high and they are letting many pass on humanitarian ground.
Dhaka Metropolitan Traffic Police Sergeant Asad Ullah, who was on duty in the Abdullahpur area, said there was rush of people on this route even on the last day of Ramadan.
