The Bangladeshi expatriate businessmen living in Europe have expressed keen interest in investing in the country's pharmaceuticals, healthcare, agriculture, processed food, education, technology, services sector and human resources development.
The interest was shown when a 26-member delegation of the Europe-Bangladesh Federation of Commerce and Industry (EBFCI) held a meeting with the leaders of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) at its Gulshan office in the capital on Wednesday, said an FBCCI press release.
Speaking at the meeting, chair of the meeting and FBCCI administrator Md Hafizur Rahman said that the European Union (EU) is one of the largest export markets of Bangladesh while the EU has been providing various facilities to Bangladesh over the years including GSP and EBA to expand trade and commerce.
He also hoped that the EU would continue supporting Bangladesh in the coming days.
The new FBCCI administrator also called upon the expatriate Bangladeshis to supplement the government's efforts in building a new Bangladesh under the dynamic leadership of Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus.
Hafizur sought more investment from the expatriate Bangladeshi entrepreneurs residing in EU countries in the fields of pharmaceuticals, capital markets, agriculture and other potential sectors.
EBFCI delegation President Dr Wali Tasar Uddin said that Bangladesh has a high potential for attracting investment in the fields of education, healthcare and human resources development.
In the open discussion, the business leaders stressed signing more trade agreements between Bangladesh and the EU countries to boost trade and commerce side by side simplifying customs and visa procedures in import and export operations.
They also emphasised export diversification, improvement in packaging, marketing and marketing strategy, promotion and branding to make room in the mainstream of the European market instead of being limited within the ethnic market.
Women Entrepreneur Association of Bangladesh (WEAB) president Nasrin Fatema Awal, former FBCCI directors, non-executive directors of EBFCI, FBCCI general secretary Md Alamgir, and other business leaders were present, among others, on the occasion.
