A special team of the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has discussed the feasibility of a metro rail project in the port city with Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Muhammad Yunus.

At a courtesy meeting held at the CDA office on Monday, both parties discussed in detail pre-feasibility information and opinions on the Chattogram metro rail project – being funded by KOICA and implemented by the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA).

The master plan – being implemented by the CDA – was also discussed.

In this regard, CDA Chairman Muhammad Yunus said, “We have to plan for the next 50 to 100 years in order to keep Chattogram habitable in a planned way.

“Therefore, the metro rail project should not only be implemented for the existing city, it should also keep into consideration the facilitation of communication of greater Chattogram, as well as south Chattogram and north Chattogram.”

Putting more emphasis on the circular train alongside metrorail, Yunus said, “If the metro rail is an underground project, we should make plans to mitigate environmental hazards such as floods, tidal waves, and landslides.”

CDA Chairman, and also a valiant freedom fighter, Muhammad Yunus assured that the CDA will ensure its full cooperation to speed up work on the metro rail project.

Ongoing Master Plan Project Director and CDA Deputy Chief Town Planner Mohammad Abu Isa Ansari, and Town Planner Zahir Ahmed were present at Monday’s meeting.

Present on behalf of the Korean International Cooperation Agency were MRT Project Director Mir Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, Yooshin Engineering Corporation Vice President Ilho Chung, Junheng Jo, and Sangyo Lee.
