PM Sheikh Hasina inaugurates Padma Multipurpose Bridge

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has formally inaugurated the much-awaited Padma Multipurpose Bridge from its Mawa point in Munshiganj.

The premier’s motorcade stepped into the main bridge Saturday noon, and a munajat led by the Cabinet secretary was offered at the inauguration site.

The prime minister also became the first person to cross the Padma Bridge, soon after opening it for traffic, by paying the bridge toll.

Earlier, on June 17 last, the authorities concerned conducted a test run for the toll plaza of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge as some of public cars crossed the toll plaza at the Mawa end.

The test run continued for seven days and the authorities rehearsed the process of taking tolls and issuing slips during the period.

Although, the Padma Bridge was inaugurated for vehicular movement, it will be opened to traffic at from 6:00am Sunday.
