Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has adopted three more uplift projects aimed at enhancing civic amenities alongside ensuring eco-friendly habitable atmosphere through various infrastructural developments.

An epitaph of Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman, one of the four national leaders, will be built in the Kadirganj area in the city aimed at offering knowledge about the life, works and devotion of the national leader.

The city corporation will implement the project with an estimated cost of around Tk 30.77 crore dedicated to the restoration and conservation of the history and tradition of the region.

City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman revealed this while addressing a review meeting with engineers and contractors related to the city's ongoing Tk 2,993-crore project titled 'Integrated Urban Infrastructure Development in Rajshahi City' at the Nagar Bhaban conference hall on Tuesday.

He said they have planned to conserve 22 natural water bodies under a project titled "Natural Water Bodies Conservation and Development in Rajshahi City" in order to retain its surface water resources for protecting the environment from further degradation.

With the intervention of the Tk 1,209.13-crore scheme, embankments of the water bodies will be concretised with retaining walls besides necessary excavation and re-excavation.

In addition to benches and walkways, concrete stairs will be constructed along the banks of the ponds for embellishment.

"We have also adopted a project styled "Modernization of Rajshahi city's Waste Management" involving around Tk 1,465.18 crore," he said, adding 103 acres of land will be acquired for implementation of the project.

The scheme has provisions for waste collection and removal in modern ways, construction of wastewater treatment plant, fecal sludge treatment and recycling plant.

Mayor Liton said they have been implementing massive infrastructure-development works in the city under the Tk 2,993-crore project.

They are going to construct five more elevated roads with the main thrust of overall development of the metropolis through freeing it from traffic congestion.

The flyovers will be constructed over the Haragram Natunpara Railway Crossing, Rajshahi Court Station Railway Crossing, Bilsimla Railway Crossing, Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Railway Crossing, Bhadra Railway Crossing and Mohanpur Railway Crossing.

In addition to the five flyovers, various infrastructure-development works are being implemented under the project scheduled to be completed by June, 2024. A total of ten foot-over bridges will also be constructed.

He said Sheikh Russel Shishu Park is being set-up in Chhotobangram area at a cost of around Taka 4.43 crore.

Liton said the Rajshahi city will get a new look upon successful implementation of the mega project. "We are working relentlessly to make the city green and habitable," he added.

Mayor Liton urged all the engineers, contractors and others concerned to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty for successful implementation of all the development projects so that the city dwellers can derive total benefits of those.

With Chief Executive Officer Dr Sharif Uddin in the chair, the meeting was addressed among others, by Ward Councilors Nizam Ul Azim, Kamal Hossain, Rabiul Islam and Anwarul Amin and Chief Engineer Nur Islam.
