DGFI chief, foreign military officers pay homage to martyrs

Major General Hamidul Haque, Director General of Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), along with 13 military officers from 11 countries paid rich tributes to the Liberation War martyrs at the National Memorial at Savar on Sunday.

The foreign military officers paid tributes to the martyrs and stood in solemn silence for some time. Later, they signed the visitor’s book kept at the monument.

After paying homage, Hamidul Haque said, “On the call of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the military representatives of various countries assigned to Dhaka have come here to pay their respects to the martyrs who participated in the Liberation War in 1971.”

In response to a question, the DGFI chief said, “We have relations with every country. The foreign policy of Bangladesh is “Friendship with all and enmity with none.” In this context, military representatives of different countries have paid respects to our martyrs.”

The military officers from 11 countries are- Representative of Australia Lt. Col. John Dempsey, Representative of China Sr. Col. Du Jingsen, Representative of India Brigadier Manmeet Singh Sabharwal, Representative of Indonesia Col. Azwan Abdi, Representative of Myanmar Brig So Nuyet, Representative of Nepal Brig. Roshan Shamser Rana, Representative of Palestine Col. Mahmud Saraonah, Representative of Russia Col. Sergey Viktorovich Neydenov and Lt. Col. Alexey Yurievich Terekov, Representative of Turkey Col. Erdal Shahin, Representative of UK Lt. Col. John Crawford McClellan Short, Representative of USA Lt. Col. Michael Eric Dimeshei and Major Ian Leonard.
