Additional Director General at Directorate General Health Services Nasima Sultana tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
She disclosed the matter herself Thursday night in a Facebook post.
"After working ceaselessly for 365 days, I have become infected with COVID-19 with visible symptoms," said Nasima Sultana in her post.
"May Allah protect humankind, the people of Bangladesh from this pandemic," she added.
Bangladesh on Thursday recorded 59 COVID-19 deaths in 24 hours till 8:00 am - the highest single-day death toll since the first case was reported, which took the total death count to 9,105.
Besides, 6,469 positive cases were recorded during the same period, also a record.
