DGHS asks doctors, health workers to carry ID card

The Directorate General of Health Services on Monday asked the physicians and health workers to carry their respective identity cards during movement in the ongoing nationwide lockdown.

The DGHS issued a circular in this regard on the day saying that many health workers and physicians were being harassed during their movement in the lockdown.

The DGHS termed the harassments as “unacceptable” and urged the law-enforcement agencies to cooperate with the physicians and the health service providers during their travel to workplaces.

This notification came a day after a physician of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University got involved in an ugly spat with police and a magistrate after she was asked to show her ID card at the Elephant Road crossing in Dhaka.

The video of the incident went viral on social media sparking a sharp reaction from the public over the behaviour of the parties involved.
