A Dhaka Court on Monday placed Abdul Malek, a driver of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), on a 14-day remand in two cases filed under Special Powers Act and Arms Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahidul Islam passed the order on Monday.
Earlier on the day, the investigation officer of the case had appealed for fourteen days remand to interrogate Malek.
Earlier on Monday, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) filed two cases against driver Malek.
RAB arrested Malek, in Dhaka's Kamarpara area on September 20 for his involvement in various criminal activities.
The law enforcement agency recovered a foreign-made pistol, a magazine, five bullets, and counterfeit notes worth 1.50 lakh taka from his possession.
Rab claimed Malek was arrested for extortion and running illegal firearms trade in Turag thana area.
Based on secret information, an operational team of the RAB-1 battalion conducted a raid at a 7-storey building of Bamunertek at Kamarpara under Turagh police station at around 3:10 am and arrested Driver Malek, said Media officer of the battalion Md Morshedul Hasan.
One foreign-made pistol, one magazine, five rounds of bullets, fake currency worth around 1.50 lakh taka, one laptop and one mobile phone were recovered from his possession, he said.
