Dhaka Elevated Expressway toll ranges from Tk80 to Tk400

To use the Dhaka Elevated Expressway’s 11.5-kilometre stretch from Kawla to Farmgate, vehicles will need to pay from Tk 80 to Tk 400 as toll, depending on their categories.

The vehicles will be divided into four categories, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Sunday while announcing the toll rates for the expressway, which is set to be partially opened to traffic on September 2.

The lowest toll has been fixed at Tk 80 for private car, taxi, jeep, sports utility vehicles, microbuses (less than 16 seats) and mini-trucks (less than 3 tonnes). The second category vehicles--medium-sized trucks with up to 6 wheels--will have to pay Tk 320 as toll.

The third category of vehicles--large trucks with more than 6 wheels-- will have to pay Tk 400 while all buses and minibuses with 16 or more than 16 seats will have to pay Tk 160 as toll.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the section on September 2 and she will attend a rally at the old trade fair ground in Dhaka’s Agargaon, marking the inauguration, the minister said.

According to the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, of the three phases of the construction work, the physical work of around 98 per cent of the first section up to Banani and 58 per cent work from Banani to Moghbazar section have been completed. The physical work has started on the last part from Moghbazar to Kutubkhali.

At least 65 per cent of the total work of this project has been completed so far.

The elevated expressway is being constructed from the south of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Kawla-Kuril-Banani-Mohakhali-Tejgaon-Moghbazar-Kamalapur-Sayedabad-Jatrabari-Dhaka-Chittagong highway (Kutubkhali).

Under the project, 27-km long 31 ramps are being constructed for getting on and off the road. The total length of the project, including ramps, is 46.73 km.

The BBA’s latest data shows that the progress in the physical work of the Central Control Building (CCB) in Kuril area is 94.76 per cent.
