Dhaka for result-oriented IORA Action Plan

Bangladesh has stressed on a result-oriented action plan for the Indian Ocean Rim Association and has sought concerted efforts to implement the action plan.

Secretary (Maritime Affairs Unit) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rear Admiral (Retd) Md Khurshed Alam while representing Bangladesh at a workshop on Thursday said, the action plan should be inclusive, comprehensive, and aligned to the objectives of the Indian Ocean Rim Association.

Bangladesh, current Vice Chair of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), hosted the virtual workshop to discuss the second IORA Action Plan.

Around 50 senior officials from the 22 IORA member states participated in the day-long workshop. Khurshed Alam led the Bangladesh delegation at the workshop.

In his remarks, Khurshed Alam highlighted the evolution of IORA into a forum that has started to address regional and global issues of both human security and human development across several continents.

Speakers discussed the IORA Strategic Vision at the workshop and member states were requested to agree on the proposed format and structure of the new IORA Action Plan.

Since Bangladesh will become the Chair of IORA in the last quarter of the current year, Khurshed Alam sought cooperation from all IORA member states for implementing the new action plan through concerted efforts.
