In an effort to increase electricity generation capacity in the capital, DPDC (Dhaka Power Distribution Company) has decided to add six new sub-stations and renovate five old ones with efficient power management system.
In addition, smart grid system will also be introduced on a pilot basis in five sub-stations.
This will enable 1,15,000 new customers to come under electricity facility in the city.
DPDC will implement the projects. Through this, a number of 132/33 and 33/11 KV (Kilo Volt) sub-stations will be built in Dhaka metropolitan area.
The project will cost 1,528 crore taka and will be completed by 2023.
The project proposal will be presented for approval at the Executive Committee (ECNEC) meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) on Tuesday (August 25). The meeting will take place at the NEC Conference Centre in the capital.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will preside over the meeting virtually from Ganabhaban.
The project, titled “Construction of Substation, Rehabilitation, Establishment of Capacity Bank in Power System and Introduction of Smart Grid System”, has already been referred to the Planning Commission by the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.
Under the project, two 132/33 grid sub-stations and four 33/11 KV sub-stations will be constructed.
A total of 480 MVA (Mega Volt Ampere) at 132 KV level and 525 MVA at 33 KV level will be increased.
At the same time, 33 KV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) will be replaced by 33 KV Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS) of the existing five sub-stations.
In this regard, DPDC Managing Director Engineer Bikash Dewan recently said smart grid system will be introduced experimentally in DPDC area for the development of power distribution management system.
Under the proposed project, the first smart grid system will be introduced on a pilot basis in 33/11 KV sub-stations at Kamrangirchar, Lalmatia, Green Road, Khanpur and Khilgaon. This will reduce the technical loss.
Sources said 11 vehicles will also be purchased for the implementation of the project.
