Rail communications between Dhaka and other parts of the country resumed on Sunday afternoon after five hours of suspension due to the blockade on railway tracks by a section of temporary workers of the Bangladesh Railway near Karwan Bazar in the capital.

The workers under the banner of “Bangladesh Railway Temporary Workers” stopped movement of Titas commuter train by putting barricade on the tracks in the FDC Railgate area in the morning.

The railway workers said they are demanding to make the job of temporary workers permanent, regularisation of jobs, cancellation of outsourcing practices and amendment to the recruitment rules 2020.

Ferdous Ahmed Bishwas, officer-in-charge of Kamalapur railway police station, told UNB that the blockade was withdrawn around 3pm.

There has been a major disruption in the train schedule for departures from Dhaka to various destinations in the country since the blockade began, causing suffering to hundreds of passengers.
