Burglars stole diamond jewellery worth over Tk 2 crore from a shop located in Dhanmondi's Metro Shopping Mall on Sunday.
The police said burglars, numbering at least five, entered the “Trust Diamond” showroom located on the third floor of the shopping mall shortly after 10am, after breaking the shop's shutter.
Later, they fled the scene with the booty of diamond ornaments over Tk 2 crore.
Confirming the matter, Dhanmondi police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Parvez Islam said the police visited the spot after receiving the information about the incident.
"We have already collected the CCTV footage of the market. The footage shows a group of five people entering the shop and after a while, they left with the booty," the OC said.
Quoting the owner of Trust Diamond, OC Parvez said he came to know that the owner of Trust Diamond is working on the renovation of a new showroom on the ground floor of Metro Shopping Mall. So he rented a shop on the third floor and kept the diamond jewellery there.
Officials of various agencies, including the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Detective Branch (DB) of police, visited the spot.
