In a bid to keep the mobile network operational in the flood-ravaged Feni district, Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Adviser Nahid Islam has directed that diesel be made free for telecom operators so that they can keep the tower generators running.
Giving this instruction at the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on Saturday, he said, “Because there is no electricity, a lot of diesel is needed to keep the 78 mobile network towers of Feni district running.
“It is very important to keep the mobile network towers operational amid the severe flood situation, so I am directing the BTRC to provide free diesel required by the generators deployed in the district by mobile operators to keep these mobile network towers operational.”
A portable generator (PG) (75 KV) consumes 2.3 litres of diesel per hour, and a generator (DG) (30 KV) consumes 4.4 litres of diesel per hour. So, 6,552 liters of diesel is required daily to run 78 generators, costing Tk 7,14,168.
Similarly, 45,864 litres of diesel is needed to keep the same number of generators running for 7 days, with a cost of Tk 49,99,176. This amount will be paid from the BTRC funds under the ICT adviser’s directive.
