The High Court has granted one year bail to Abul Asad, editor of Bangla newspaper the Daily Sangram, in a case filed under Digital Security Act (DSA) on charges of circulating provocative report and sedition.

The bench of Justice Md Emdadul Haque and Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury passed the order on Wednesday.

Advocate Shishir Monir confirmed the matter to The Business Post on Wednesday.

Asad's lawyer Advocate Shishir Monir and Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain stood in favour of the accused before the court.

Earlier on December 13 last year, police detained Abul Asad as his newspaper described Abdul Quader Molla, an executed war criminal, as a 'martyr' in a report published on December 12.

He was later shown arrested in a case filed under the Digital Security Act with Hatirjheel police station by ward-36 Muktijoddha Commander Afzal Hossain.

Meanwhile, leaders of Muktijuddho Mancha vandalised the office of Jamaat-e-Islami mouthpiece the Daily Sangram following its report. They vandalised several televisions, computers and furniture.

Later on December 14, 2019, a Dhaka court placed Abul Asad on a three-day remand in the case.
