Upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Dinajpur's Ghoraghat upazila Wahida Khanam and her father were injured early Thursday in an attack at her official residence.
The UNO is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Rangpur Doctors' Clinic and her father freedom fighter Omor Ali is admitted at the Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Amirul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ghoraghat police station, confirmed the matter to The Business Post.
He said a miscreant entered the UNO's residence on Upazila Parishad Campus around 1:30am Thursday. The attacker first hacked Omor Ali with a sharp weapon and then attacked Wahida with the same weapon, injuring them critically and then fleeing the scene.
On information, Deputy Commissioner of Dinajpur Md Mahmudul Alam, Dinajpur-6 constituency MP Shibli Sadique and Police Super Anwar Hossain visited the house.
The motive of the attack is still unclear and the attacker is yet to be identified, said OC Amirul Islam. However, police are working to capture him with the help of the CCTV footage of the campus, he added.
The local administration has cordoned off the campus.
